Abalone Fishermen’s
Co-operative Ltd. (AFCL) was established in 1976 by a group of abalone divers operating
in Victoria’s Eastern Zone abalone Fishery.
20 of the 23 Abalone Access Licence owners in the Eastern Zone are
currently members.
The fishery is quota managed and each year we process
about 400 of the 460 tonnes of abalone available in the Eastern Zone.
AFCL produces a range of abalone products ranging from
IQF whole in the shell to canned in brine with all of our products being highly
regarded. Quality has always been our
main focus and our products, especially our canned products are regarded as the
industry leaders.
AFCL exported products worth $18m in the
2000/2001 financial year and this year this will rise to about $20m.
